Menopausal weight gain also increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and has been strongly linked to increased incidence of breast and other hormone-related cancers post menopause. These healthcare concerns have led to the conception of specific products that target menopausal weight gain.

Menopause in simple terms is when women stop getting their period and it usually happens around the age of 52 however it can occur between your 30′s and 60′s as well. Menopausal weight gain happens because your hormones are going crazy at this time. Do you remember gaining weight when you were a teenager going through puberty? Hormone fluctuations are the main cause of the increased weight during menopause. The hormones in a woman’s body are responsible for the overall metabolism, appetite and the general storage of fat in the body. A declining level of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone makes it very difficult for a woman to maintain her body weight during menopause.

Medical research continues to draw a correlation between the changes in hormones during menopause and increased weight gain. Changes to the hormonal structures within the body can result in insulin resistance and stress. These two factors can weigh heavily in the body’s ability to burn calories, overall metabolic capacity, and the accumulation of additional pounds

The fluctuation of hormones in your body is responsible for this weight gain as hormones directly impact your metabolism, appetite and fat storage. I called this “hormone-triggered” weight gain which can be tricky for you to ward off.

Daily your thoughts are filled with “You can’t go up an other dress size you just bought these new jeans the ones that make your “tummy flat.” Yet you feel like your thighs are expanding at night while you try to sleep even though you’re doing more tossing than slumbering. Let’s not mention you just don’t feel ‘like it’ when the man in your life mentions sex. Your guy says he understands and you tell yourself it’s because you look and feel fat but deep down inside that is only part of it.
